This holiday retreat, located on the beach an unusual situation, as two separate buildings, and design one for housing and dining, and the other to sleep. In the separate bedroom wing provides additional privacy, even late-night entertainment does not disturb the sleeping children or parents who are fatigued, as appropriate. Water views and wide-ranging and generous decks, orientation and shelter for two buildings contribute to a relationship between the liquid in the living areas and seascapes around them.

Located in the northwest corner of Hat Island in the Puget Sound and Washington near the San Juan Islands, and the house is in a location on the waterfront which is narrow in the relatively dense development of beach front single family homes. The exception of the development adjacent to the north and south, in the area are in pristine maritime environment where the experience of water and wild animals is essential to being there.

Homeowners desire to have a modern holiday home that maximize unique beach, and provides a convenient location amidst a space to experience the waterfront, and absorb the negative activities. Property, houses and co-owned by 2 families, so the design was to provide adequate space for large groups sharing facilities.

Struck by the beauty of the setting, engineer Chris Serra decided to create a design that captured the pristine nature of the site while minimizing the experience of neighboring development. The main challenge is how to achieve a balance between this idea with the reality of building a house for the families of 2 contain 5 bedrooms on the CD. Graphic design was a 2 buildings, and serves all of the tasks to which was attached while creating a particular experience on the site. Choice of materials and detail of the structure of the building based on the strength also of great importance because of the nature of the subject site. The materials include Western red cedar channel siding more than one system rainscreen, Cembonit slabs of cement during the rainscreen, Tigerwood decking, railings galvanized, metal roofing and standing seam.
